Mike Clark's Board of Advisors Review

After selling his company, Mike Clark founded Advocates Of Love, an inspiring nonprofit children’s home and ministry in Samaná, a town on the Samaná Peninsula in the Dominican Republic.

Advocates Of Love, or “AOL,” provides a community-based care for children who meet not only CONANI standards, but also standards set forth by AOL to ensure there are no children left uncared for.

By providing shelter, clothing, food, schools, churches, and 24/7 around the clock care, these children obtain all the essential needs to live a healthy, happy life.

ABOUT ADVOCATES OF LOVE

Advocates of Love - Our History

While seeking to respond to a call given to us by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to look after orphans in distress, we were lead to the Samana province of the Dominican Republic. We found many orphans and suffering children in need with little to no help available to them.

A partnership was formed with a local church that was interested in coming alongside us to provide the much needed physical, emotional, educational and spiritual care to the children who are in the greatest need. In July of 2013 a US based 501c3 was created – Advocates of Love, Inc. In December 2013 a Dominican NGO was created, Fundacion Defensores De Amor, Inc. In 2014 AOL became licensed and accredited by CONANI, who is the children and families government authority.

We seek to provide 24 hr. care for those children who meet the CONANI standards, and provide community-based care for those who meet the standards set forth by Advocates of Love. In addition to the care provided to the children and families in the Dominican Republic, Advocates of Love is committed to share the mission experience with communities and organizations in the United States.

Samaná

In 2013 Advocates of Love began the first ministry and children’s home within the entire Province of Samana.

To date we are the only children’s home and ministry to orphan and vulnerable children in the Province.

To support the vision and mission, two legal entities have been established.

 The US based organization, Advocates of Loves is an approved 501-3C.  Under the guidance of its board of directors, Advocates of Love provides awareness, is responsible for fund raising; oversees the operations of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the Dominican Republic and approves all activities required to operate the Children’s Home.

The Dominican Republic based organization, Fundacion Defensores De Amor, is an approved NGO.  The NGO, in partnership with local churches, is accountable for the daily operations and responsibilities of the Children’s Home, community care program and children’s churches.

Operating in The Dominican Republic

Fundacion Defensores de Amor, the NGO, is the Dominican Republic entity that executes all operations.

The focus of the Foundation is to drive programs that impact the community and the children being served.

It is the intention of the Foundation that all who are served are empowered and encouraged to impact their community, strengthen the family unit and care for children in need.  The programs will be executed in partnership with the local pastors, community, CONANI, US mission partners and individuals supporting the mission field.

Areas of Ministry

RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX

Fundacion Defensores De Amor has a facility located in Los Corrales, Districto Municipal Samana, Dominican Republic. This property has two homes that are new in construction and is located on more than half an acre. The main home as it stands today can house up to 15 children and is referred to as the Children’s Home. The second home is designed to be an all-girls home and can house up to 8 girls. It is called Casa de Rosa. Both homes are designed to be a permanent residence for these children. Fundacion Defensores De Amor partners with a local church and has a loving staff that are serving in these homes as part of their ministry. This facility is specifically designed not to be an institution or an orphanage, but rather a loving, nurturing home for all that will reside there.

COMMUNITY BASED CARE

The other aspect of the foundation is the community based care.  This program is designed specifically for those children who meet the foundations requirements of having a suitable adult advocate, but are grossly lacking physical, medical and/or educational care.  Through clothing, feeding, medical, and/or educational sponsorship their critical needs are met.  The goal of the community care program is to defer the orphan status for children that would typically be cared for in the children’s home to being cared for by the same standards within their communities by a suitable adult advocate.

CHILDREN’S CHURCHES

To help in achieving the goal of providing the adequate spiritual care for the children within our care, we have established 2 churches that are designed explicitly for children ages 2 -17 yrs. of age.  They are open to the children within the communities and serve as a positive conduit for the continual integration of the children within our care and the communities they live in.

MISSION TRIPS

On an as needed basis, local doctors, dentists, teachers, and other various specialties will be brought to the site to provide care to those within our care and/or custody.
